"Structured Access to Documents, Digital Talking Books and Beyond: The DAISY Consortium"

George Kersher was nominated and elected as Project Manager for the DAISY Consortium in 1997. He was elected as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Open EBook Forum (OeBF) in 1999. Mr. Kerscher received numerous awards and amongst them the Keith E. Denton Member of the Year Award. This most prestigious and rarely given award is made to a member of the Association for exceptional service to the blind. George Kerscher was appointed to serve on the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Steering Counsel as the co-chair in 1998.

George Kersher is one of the most outstanding experts putting the ideas of accessibility and universal design for people with disabilities in practice in the information age. We are pleased to announce that Mr. George Kersher, a pioneer in the field of accessibility and usability of documents for print disabled people, will keynote ICCHP 2002.

The presentation will cover major results achieved by and observations about the research and development work funded by the European Commission and views on how to prepare for the future requirements and challenges in order to improve the dissemination and takeup of research and development results.

Engaging Users and Applying Usability Inspection Methods to Ensure Accessibility of Software

Mike Paciello is Founder of The Paciello Group. TPG is dedicated to stimulating education, research and development of technologies that will ensure communications access to people with disabilities. Mr. Paciello has spent the last 18 years as a technologist and professional speaker in the area of assistive technology and accessible interface design. As an international consultant and professional speaker, Mike has advised and lectured at institutions including Duke, Yale, MIT, Stanford, UCLA, and others. Mr. Paciello is a member of the Internet Society (ISOC), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and HTML Writers Guild. He also serves as an advisor to Microsoft’s Assistive Technology Group (ATG). As an author, Mike’s current book, "Web Accessibility for People with Disabilities" is an industry first and international best seller. The book is available in accessible formats and Japanese. Mike is currently working on the second revision.
