Cognitive Disabilities and Accessibility - Pushing the Boundaries of Inclusion using Digital Technologies and Accessible eLearning Environments
Digital technologies and eLearning environments offer excellent opportunities for people with and without disabilities to participate in many different types of educational and leisure activities. Digital technologies are also increasingly used in many different working environments to make work processes both easier and more effective. Fortunately, the technical systems are increasingly better adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and in many cases compatible with assistive technologies.
Nevertheless, particularly people with cognitive impairments cannot benefit from these technical opportunities because the systems are not adapted to the diverse and different needs of this target group.
In this session ideas, visions and projects for research, development and evaluation on the following topics will be presented and discussed:
- Digital technologies (software, apps, assistive technology) for people with cognitive impairments
- Cognitive accessibility of everyday technologies and eLearning environments
- eLearning environments for learners with learning difficulties (accessible MOOCs, LMS, VLEs)
- Participatory software development
- Digital support systems for people with dementia
- Use of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality or Gaming elements in digital technologies for people with learning disabilities
The aim of this session is to bring together researchers and developers who are engaged in the development and evaluation of digital technologies and e-learning environments to improve the conditions for the social participation of people with cognitive impairments and learning difficulties of all ages in all areas of life.
